Four years ago, if you had told Rizos Curls founder Julissa Prado that she would eventually collaborate with famous Mexican telenovela and international superstar Thalía, she might have laughed in your face. But the universe was clearly on her side, because this is not hypothetical – this has become a reality in the Prado. The clean hair care brand that makes products specifically to help women embrace and celebrate their curls, coils and waves, recently partnered with Thalía for the Thalía x Rizos Curls VIP Box, Amor a los Rizos ($125), which will be selling for a limited time Exclusively on Rizoscurls.com starting today!
“When the quarantine started, Thalia was trying to get her curls back and style her hair more naturally. And her stylist, Jennifer Matos, was the one who told her about Rhizos Curls. She started wearing her natural hair and going through it [transition process] At the beginning of the quarantine, she said that she loved the products and that they really worked on her hair and made her feel comfortable and confident after smoothing it for a long time.”, and we were talking to them and giving them advice about her hair, and I was talking to Jenny directly, and she wanted to collaborate at this point in our work because we are Latina owned And I’m Mexican and we’re a small business. Thalia really wanted to revive this and do something together. We were so happy her team was willing to work with us and realize that we’re still a small business, so it’s been great.”
Every little detail behind this latest collaboration was very intentional, from the box’s name, Amor a los Rizos, an ode to Prado’s favorite Thalía song, “Amor a la Mexicana,” to the gorgeous illustration of Thalía sporting loose braids and guitars on her chest in reference to her performance. The famous neighborhood “Amor a la Mexicana” 1997, to the products included in the box. The limited-edition box contains everything from classic Rizos Curls products like Curl Defining Cream ($22) and Refresh & Detangle Spray ($20) to newer products like Light Hold Gel ($20, originally $22), which They were released earlier this year, and more recently have been launched as Nourishing Hair, Scalp & Body Oil ($25), Detox Scalp Scrub ($28), and Vitamin C Hair Repair Mask ($30). According to Prado, every product included in the box is exactly what Thalia has been using during the pandemic to restore her curls.
“The new products, which I’ve been already working on for about two years now. I was already working on them even before I started collaborating with Thalia. It was really a great testament to love, in terms of my team and production wisdom, and trying to figure out the best ingredients that treat and repair hair.” “It just kind of worked perfectly when we talked to Thalia because at that moment, I was working on these samples and she was also trying to fix her hair. I was like, ‘Wow, these products I’m working on are exactly what you need too.’” Prado set out to create a recipe for Thalia’s hair with stylist Matos to instruct the star to nourish and restore her curls, while sending her samples of the new Rizos Curls formulas she’s been working on.
Prado said that not only has Thalia been able to get her curls back, but the products have also helped her keep her hair healthy even when she occasionally does straight hairstyles. “It’s a journey, and it’s practical for everyone, and it’s not like she’s totally committed to always curling her hair all the time. She straightens it and does different things depending on her responsibilities, and that’s the beauty of curly hair,” she said. “That’s the beauty of having high-quality ingredients, which is why we wanted to prioritize the products in the box to be truly reparative and healing, because we got them. It’s so easy to be like, ‘I’m never going to damage my hair again.’” I would never style or heat it up. I’d never dye it or do anything, “but it’s okay to live a little and find the balance. Let’s focus on keeping it healthy and using really great ingredients for your scalp and hair so you’re free to do whatever you want while keeping your hair healthy.”
The stunning illustration on the box was created by Guatemalan illustrator and artist Claudia Argueta, who also illustrated the adorable set of stickers in the box to celebrate the collaboration. Another very intentional move on Prado’s part was that she really wanted to use this collaboration to elevate and celebrate Latinas in general.
“For me, it’s just a circle-filled moment because I remember watching it on TV and having that connection to that song as an artist, actress, and entrepreneur. So many things it embodies, and now it’s full circle I have my own business and I’m working on a collaboration with it,” Prado said. Only, we are now four years old and this is happening, and we are in the place where we have been able to bring this to life. I hope to be able to keep growing and keep creating.”
